I loved Sherman. Here’s a few quick stories focused on my interactions with Sherman.
He had us over to dinner on December 31, 1999 and we talked about Y2k.
He hired me the first time I was quitting USWEST, someone else vetoed it. A year later, I was quitting again and asked if the offer still stood, he hired me again. During strike duty, I was quitting for the third time and told him so. Next day, I was back in Denver working for GVL again. Once, he asked what salary did I want, I got it and was sorry I went so low, but it was still a significant increase. Bunch of us told him once that a group of contractors needed to be let go, next day they were gone and Sherman took all the heat for us. Really, what manager does this? What a great people person and a fun, inspiring person to work for and with.
Of course, like all of us, I enjoyed the many conversations on virtually every topic under the sun. I seem to recall every Friday afternoon he drop by and we discuss whatever was on our minds. – Rickb
