What I don’t get
Is why the white supremacists
can’t see that Colin Kaepernick
is not disrespecting the flag.

The highest form of disrespect
is not giving a shit,
which plainly, is not the case.

Whether Colin stands or sits,
what he wants is, to be seen.

This is his respectful message.
See me, see us, he says to me,
we are Americans too.

He saying,
“I’m asking, as an American,
for all to see, that not all Americans are
being treated equally”.

In distress, the flag is hung upside down.
In this case, it’s not all of America,
only we, the non-whites, who are in distress.

I’m not seeing that Colin is asking
for an equal share of the inheritance.

Everyone knows, that’s not what this is about.

We know its impossible to equate lives,
to tally equality with an adding machine.

Colin’s not asking to live in your house,
take your job, drive you car.
He certainly doesn’t want that.

What he is asking, insisting on,
is that we have the same American flag,
this is not disrespect.

He’s not saying here’s the finger, have a good day.
This is not about you.

He’s saying this isn’t just your flag (assholes),
it’s ours too.
